History

In response to the deterioration and the major loss of wetlands in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River regions, governmental conservation agencies encouraged the creation of landtrusts during the 1990's to ensure good stewardship of wetland habitats on lands of the private domain. It is in such a context that the Quebec Society for Wetland Conservation (QSWC) was founded in 1996 to safeguard Quebec’s wetlands biodiversity.

Legal Status

The QSWC is a non-profit corporation created under Part III of the Companies Act of Quebec. The Society is also recognised as a charitable organization by the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency and by the ministère du Revenu du Québec.

Charity number: 88221 2186 RR 0001
